Unit 1 introduces the foundational skills needed for reading. Students learn beginning phonemic awareness skills essential for reading, such as segmenting and blending of sounds. They are introduced to concepts of initial sounds in words and rhyming words.
Within 10 lessons, students will learn the following letter sounds:
a, m, s, r, t, i, d, c, n, o
With just these letters and a handful of sight words, they will be able to read simple cvc words and short sentences by the end of the unit! Children will love feeling their early success in reading!
