Unit 3 builds on the foundational skills introduced in the first two units. Students continue to building their phonemic awareness skills through sound manipulation activities and identifying and creating rhymes. Students are also introduced to the concepts of syllables in words, digraphs, and long vowels sounds.
Within 15 lessons, students will learn the following letter sounds:
u, ck, j, th, wh, sh, y, v, ch, x and long vowel sounds a, i, and o
Children continue to develop their reading skills through decodable words and stories for each lesson in their workbook. Word activities become more advanced and students begin to develop beginning spelling skills. Reading comprehension is encouraged through drawing pictures to the stories presented in each lesson. Students can also read a two-part decodable book by the end of this unit.
